Foods Matter Needs You!

29/10/2012 //  by Michelle Berridale Johnson//  Leave a Comment

Yes, FoodsMatter needs you –  if you have a day or so a week to spare, if you enjoy selling things (ideally advertising) and if you have a good working knowledge of freefrom food, CAM or the supplement industry….

Why?

We want to sell more advertising on our freefrom food sites. This has been my job for the last couple of years but, between keeping an eye on our two industry awards, pulling together the fortnightly e-newsletter and overseeing the daily additions to our five sites, not to mention devising the odd ‘freefrom’ recipe, I just do not have time.

It is not a huge job – I reckon that it would take  the equivalent of one to two days spread over a week – so it would be perfect for someone wanting to work from home and to organise their own schedule. But it does need to be someone with a good working knowledge of freefrom food and, most important, someone who really enjoys selling things.

So what about CAM and supplements?

On the FoodsMatter site are two Cindarella sections – ‘Alternative and complementary approaches’  and FreeFrom Supplements. Cindarella not because they are not important parts of the sites but because, between all the other activities that we are involved in, we simply do not have any ‘quality’ time left to devote to them. Yet both have significant potential in advertising terms.

So, we need two more people with around a day a week to spare, who also want to work from home and organise their own schedules. But, as with the food sites, we need people with a good working knowledge of either CAM or the supplement trade and, again, people who really enjoy selling things.

Recipes?…..

And finally, while on the subject……. FreeFrom RecipesMatter could also do with some quality attention… It gets lots in terms of quality editorial input, especially with all of our lovely new guest chefs – but in terms of advertising input? Virtually none! And I suspect that there is a good deal of potential there too that we are totally failing to realise.

How would this work?

My feeling is that all of these ‘positions’ would suit someone who has already  had a career in one of these areas but has now decided that, from choice or necessity, that they want to work shorter hours or from home and who either wants, or needs, to be very flexible with their time and their input.

To maximise this flexibility I would propose that we would not pay any kind of salary or retainer, but offer a generous commission on any advertising sold. This means that the person concerned would have a good incentive to sell lots but would not be under any obligation to put in set hours if their circumstances periodically made that difficult.

So, do you know of anyone who might be intersted in any of those roles? Or indeed, anyone who might have the expertise and the interest to cover several of them?

If so, please put them in touch!  I am to be found on 020 7722 2866 or by email – and we are recruiting now……..

A food fad won’t kill you – an allergy will

There has been a predictable outcry in the allergy world this week’s in response to Rachel Johnson’s piece in Thursday’s Evening Standard on ‘dietary requirements’ and food fads. Being charitable, I am assuming that she has never suffered from or lived with someone with a food allergy. However, I do have some sympathy with her …

Bioplastics – a solution or part of the problem?

Everyday Plastic is a social enterprise group using accessible learning and publicity campaigns to reduce the amount of plastics used daily in our society. It was founded by its current director Daniel Webb who, having moved to Margate in Kent in 2016, was horrified to discover that there were no plastic recycling options on offer.  …

Do not extradite Julian Assange to the US

Julian Assange is being sought by the current US administration for publishing US government documents which exposed war crimes and human rights abuses. The politically motivated charges represent an unprecedented attack on press freedom and the public’s right to know – seeking to criminalise basic journalistic activity. Assange is facing a 175-year sentence for publishing …

What to believe – applying critical thought

For the average citizen evaluating the claims made for cure all – or even improve all – health products and procedures has always been difficult. Not only is it an area in which we have minimal expertise but most of us have a vested interest in finding a miracle intervention that will solve our health …

Could wireless monitoring devices be killing racehorses?

Regular readers may remember that back in August last year I alerted you to a posting on Arthur Firstenberg’s Cellphone Task Force site about phone masts and bird flu. Could there be a connection between the fact that the two wildlife sites in Holland and Northern France which had suffered catastrophic bird flu deaths were …
