Foods Matter revived – and the wonderful properties of linen sheets

26/07/2022 //  by Michelle Berridale Johnson//  4 Comments

The long term subscriber who sent me the fascinating report on linen sheets and electromagnetic radiation below commented, correctly, that there had been somewhat of a dearth of posts on this blog recently. Apologies. My excuse is my final move into my new abode, the unpacking of far too many boxes for me to count – and my attempts to revive the FoodsMatter website.

As many of you will know, FoodsMatter is a very large informational website devoted to food allergy and intolerance and all the many health conditions related to them. It was built over 10 years ago by my partner James who ran all of our IT for us. Because it is such a large site we had never transferred it from the programme in which it was built, Dreamweaver, but this is now rarely used. While James was around this was not an issue – I could do basic day to day stuff but he was there to deal with anything more fundamental or complicated.

But then James died very suddenly and unexpectedly nearly four years ago. For a couple of years I kept it ticking over but 18 months ago the programme got upgraded and I could no longer even get into it. Since then  I have been looking for someone who could help me update and upgrade the site and hold my hand while I refamiliarised myself with it – and finally I found someone in the person of the wonderful Gary at the Footprint Digital Agency. And now Gary has worked his magic, the site had been cleaned up, I can now access it and now I am ready to start adding to it once more.

The blog and the site will work together, as before and new posts which seem more appropriate for the site than the blog will still get highlighted from the blog and vice versa.

Can Linen Sheets block electromagnetic radiation?

Our subscriber saw this in the Letters section of the Weston A Price magazine.

I have been using linen sheets from Life Giving Linens (LGL). I find them comfortable in both summer and winter. Yes, when new they can make you feel like you are sleeping on straw, but with use and washings, they soften up. The best features are the handling of perspiration and the blocking of radio frequency radiation. It is about impossible to wake up and find the sheets wet or even damp.

Regarding radio frequency (RF), the literature that LGL provided with the sheets said the sheets block RF. Well, I had to do my own experiment. Using my RF meter and cell phone, I held the meter while my wife held the cell phone. My wife made a call. When I held the meter above the sheet in free air the meter had a signal strength in the red zone. But when I put the meter under the flat sheet the signal strength fell into the green zone. The cell phone was less than ten feet from the meter. The above and below the sheet test with the meter was repeated seven times with the same results each time—the linen blocked the RF.

Linen is a good choice for those who are electro-hypersensitive. I’m spending one-third of my life RF-free.

Just to give you all a giggle on a sunny Wednesday afternoon….I have a collection of household linen including pillowcases, many items are Victorian, Edwardian with beautiful lace borders. Some crotchet work some tatting or hand made lace. I use these items regularly. Pillowcases are just so comfortable.
Since moving to Bridlington, the same pillowcases have lost their pristine snowy whiteness. They usually take a trip through washer and iron well. In my previous homes the water was very soft. Here in Bridlington, its very hard and something I havent had to deal with before. The loss of whiteness was simply annoying. I phoned the help line of a certain soap powder producer thinking that a different detergent would improve the situation. The young voice on phone asked for the details on the care label. After I had laughed…I decided to revert to how my Gran would have dealt with this problem. Line dried in sun….OK I am old fashioned, but it works.

We have missed your blogs and it’s great to hear you’ll be back! I have a wonderful linen duvet cover that’s one of my favourites. But this week I’m testing some silver technology bedding! Tonight is the first night’s sleep test! Wish me luck.

Thank you Ruth. Very interested in you silver technology bedding – is this a skincare move or an electromagnetic one? Do keep us posted on how you get on.

They sound lovely, Janet. I am curious about the whiteness/hard water issue as I too struggle with keeping white sheets white and our water is very hard. In fact, it is so bad in Highgate I am about to install a water softener. I shall be fascinated to see if it makes any difference.

A food fad won’t kill you – an allergy will

There has been a predictable outcry in the allergy world this week’s in response to Rachel Johnson’s piece in Thursday’s Evening Standard on ‘dietary requirements’ and food fads. Being charitable, I am assuming that she has never suffered from or lived with someone with a food allergy. However, I do have some sympathy with her …

Bioplastics – a solution or part of the problem?

Everyday Plastic is a social enterprise group using accessible learning and publicity campaigns to reduce the amount of plastics used daily in our society. It was founded by its current director Daniel Webb who, having moved to Margate in Kent in 2016, was horrified to discover that there were no plastic recycling options on offer.  …

Do not extradite Julian Assange to the US

Julian Assange is being sought by the current US administration for publishing US government documents which exposed war crimes and human rights abuses. The politically motivated charges represent an unprecedented attack on press freedom and the public’s right to know – seeking to criminalise basic journalistic activity. Assange is facing a 175-year sentence for publishing …

What to believe – applying critical thought

Not only is it an area in which we have minimal expertise but most of us have a vested interest in finding a miracle intervention that will solve our health …

Could wireless monitoring devices be killing racehorses?

Regular readers may remember that back in August last year I alerted you to a posting on Arthur Firstenberg’s Cellphone Task Force site about phone masts and bird flu. Could there be a connection between the fact that the two wildlife sites in Holland and Northern France which had suffered catastrophic bird flu deaths were …
