Foods-to-go and ‘Bars’ – our very 2015 categories – reflecting the current focus throughout the food industry on ‘food to go’ – food that you can carry in your pocket/backpack/handbag and eat on the run on your way to the office or on the school run in the morning, as you dash for a quick workout at the gym at lunchtime, on the way home after a few drinks in the pub in the evening – in fact anywhere that you might feel peckish when you are not sitting down at a table!!
Although they actually had a category all to themselves, ‘bars’ (cereal bars, fruit bars, energy bars, nut bars, protein bars, grain free bars, raw bars, superfood bars and many more) are very much ‘food to go’. And what you see on the table above is only a small selection of what the judges actually worked their way through!
Although those on ‘freefrom’ diets have been reasonably well catered for in terms of bars, food to go has been somewhat of a nightmare so it was really encouraging that we had a very diverse entry for both categories ranging from traditional pork pies to grain-free superfood bars. Not only were they jolly tasty but, as you can see, they provoked some serious discussion….
Next up – indeed last up – the Children’s Category!
