Since his return to Lawn Road from his travels (click here for his great adventure) Frodo has settled back into a pleasant regime of eating and sleeping, interspersed with four hourly patrols around the street at the front of the house and the gardens at the back – and occasional minor spats with Boris and Mushkin. Those of you who remember the scared, skinny Frodo of two months ago will be glad to see that he has filled out once more and looks nothing if not relaxed!
Stretch….
Stretch further –and relax….
And do not think that I do not see you watching me, watching you – even if you do think you are hidden behind the Nolina tree!
When Frodo first returned he took refuge with our two very life-like Dulux dogs, Oscar and Baby Oscar, on the rug in front of the fire, almost disappearing into their now pretty grubby grey blotches. I mention this only because, over the years, they have fooled many a visitor into believing that they were alive, but somnolent, and when asked where they came from we always replied – ‘Harrods’. Not a word of a lie – but not, as these gullible visitors assumed, the pet department, but the toy department.
However, I was very sad to see that Harrods pet department, that I certainly remember visiting as a child, is finally closing – to make way – what indignity – for more women’s wear….. A sad end for such an exotic department that, in its time, sold an alligator to Noel Coward, a baby elephant to Ronald Reagan and a lion cub to two Australian backpackers! For more details and some splendid pictures see this article in last week’s Evening Standard.
Although, to be honest, with the exception of the occasional hamster, live animals seem to have given way to ‘pet pampering’, boutique pet fashion brands and a ‘pet spa’ some years ago. This post from a blog called Pretty Fluffy can give you all the low down – if you think you can stand it….
Jeemboh
Maybe he was heading for the Harrods pet department on the basis that the pampering available there would be second to none? At least – in that case – he would sort of have been going in the right direction..?
