Living with – or attempting to live with – Total Food Intolerance

11/04/2022 //  by Michelle Berridale Johnson//  3 Comments

Long term followers of this blog and of the original FoodsMatter publications will remember John Scott, champion of helminthic therapy and world expert on living with total food intolerance.

John did just that himself for many years, surviving only on elemental infant formulae. His salvation came in the guise of hookworms which brought under control the chronic and extreme inflammatory reactions that were triggering his symptoms. But there are a small but significant group of people world wide who have not found answers to their problems and are in genuine danger of starving to death.

Although John’s main focus these days is on running his comprehensive information site on helminthic therapy, Helminthic Therapy Wiki, he has finally been persuaded to start a Facebook Group for Total Food Intolerance. As he says, ‘thanks to the complete lack of effective treatment options in the medical kit bag and typical dismissal of the condition as psychosomatic by medics,’ some sort of support group is desperately needed.

To help non-sufferers to understand exactly what Total Food Intolerance is, some years ago John pulled together the various personal stories and articles about Total Food Intolerance that we had gathered over the years.

You can find them here on the FoodsMatter site and they are linked so that you can click through to the section that most interests you:

  • personal stories
  • management both of possible alternative foods and the many uncomprehending and unsympathetic health professionals that you will almost inevitably encounter
  • possible treatments
  • the slowly growing recognition of the link between food intolerance and gastrointestinal disorders.

Recap:

  • Comprehensive introduction to the subject of Total food Intolerance on the Foods Matter site.
  • Comprehensive informational site on helminthic therapy.
  • New Facebook Group for Total Food Intolerance

Bringing Down a Reaction – Micki Rose

Those of you who read the Personal Stories in John’s introduction to TFI may notice mention of a therapist called  Micki Rose, an old friend and colleague of Foods Matter.

Micki has also suffered from wide ranging food intolerance issues and at one point was reduced to only 6 foods. She has written widely (and fascinatingly) on this topic and many others and you can find  details of all her books and fact sheets on her Pure Health Clinic website.

However, in this specific context, she has just updated one of her long standing fact sheets on calming food intolerance reactions, turning it into a small book – Bringing Down a Reaction. Top tips to lower accidental food intolerance reactions.
In it you will find several of her top tips for calming reactions including her most successful acute supplement protocols, the brain training technique she uses to bring her own reactions down and much more.

Just £5 from her site here.

John. On Facebook. Nah. Never thought I’d see the day! Good for him. Have joined. And thank you so much for telling your readers about my new Reaction factsheet. It’s already proving helpful, so they tell me. I’m half way through the new Food Intolerance Plan and a new MCAS factsheet. The learning never ends…but I’m hoping the reactions will!

A food fad won’t kill you – an allergy will

There has been a predictable outcry in the allergy world this week’s in response to Rachel Johnson’s piece in Thursday’s Evening Standard on ‘dietary requirements’ and food fads. Being charitable, I am assuming that she has never suffered from or lived with someone with a food allergy. However, I do have some sympathy with her …

Bioplastics – a solution or part of the problem?

Everyday Plastic is a social enterprise group using accessible learning and publicity campaigns to reduce the amount of plastics used daily in our society. It was founded by its current director Daniel Webb who, having moved to Margate in Kent in 2016, was horrified to discover that there were no plastic recycling options on offer.  …

Do not extradite Julian Assange to the US

Julian Assange is being sought by the current US administration for publishing US government documents which exposed war crimes and human rights abuses. The politically motivated charges represent an unprecedented attack on press freedom and the public’s right to know – seeking to criminalise basic journalistic activity. Assange is facing a 175-year sentence for publishing …

What to believe – applying critical thought

For the average citizen evaluating the claims made for cure all – or even improve all – health products and procedures has always been difficult. Not only is it an area in which we have minimal expertise but most of us have a vested interest in finding a miracle intervention that will solve our health …

Could wireless monitoring devices be killing racehorses?

Regular readers may remember that back in August last year I alerted you to a posting on Arthur Firstenberg’s Cellphone Task Force site about phone masts and bird flu. Could there be a connection between the fact that the two wildlife sites in Holland and Northern France which had suffered catastrophic bird flu deaths were …
