FreeFrom Advent calendars 2014

Odd though it seems, freefrom Advent calendars are one of the most searched subjects on this blog. So, since I would hate to disappoint all of you searchers – here we go with the 2014 offerings.

However, let me warn you now that we do not have any calendars with ‘freefrom’ nail varnish, Barbie dolls, Star Wars toys, bottles of beer, tea bags, pieces of jewellery, candles, trips to the cinema or or any of the other ‘gifts’ that the media seems to have been getting so worked up about this year. ‘What has a Star Wars toy got to do with Christmas?????’ But then, to be honest, what do 24 pieces of chocolate, freefrom or not, have to do with Christmas either?

So, my reservations aside, here is what Cressida has found in her ‘freefrom’ Christmas cupboard. First – what you can find in the supermarkets:

 

Tesco have a new gluten, wheat and dairy free advent calendar. Costing £3.25, it is available online and from most Tesco stores.

 

 

 

Celtic Chocolates dairy-free calendars are, as last year, available in Asda.

 

 

 

And Sainsbury’s also make a gluten, wheat and dairy free advent calendar, available online or from most Sainsbury’s stores costing £2.69.

 

 

All the Kinnerton Confectionery advent calendars are made with their ‘nut-safe’ promise but none are dairy free.

 Available from all major supermarkets.

 

 

The MooFree calendars – see below – should also be available from Sainsbury’s and Waitrose. However, if you do not want to go down the supermarket route then:

 

Plamil  make two freefrom Christmas advent calendars:

1. No added sugar alternative to milk chocolate – lots of cocoa, no added sugar, dairy free, with Xylitol
2. Organic, fairtrade milky dairy free chocolate – all the taste of dairy milk without dairy.

Both are made in their own factory which never uses dairy, gluten or nuts.
Plamil’s Chocolate Snowmen are a fun, festive treat for kids of all ages. Available in 2 varieties – No Added Sugar alternative to milk – and Organic Fairtrade alternative to milk. Available from independent shops across the UK, and online, the advent calendars and chocolate snowmen all cost £4.95.

 

 

Our good friends at D & D Chocolates make a range of advent calendar options including felt Father Christmases, snowmen and Nordic Advent garland which can be reused each year and filled with their award-winning Minty Snowmen  or other Christmassy chocolate or carob shapes. Available online.

 

Holland & Barrett make a blue and a pink organic & dairy free advent calendar, both available online and from Holland & Barrett stores for £3.99

 

 

Moo Free

‘s organic dairy free chocolate advent calendar features several of the Moo Free animals enjoying a Christmas together.

 Available online and from high street retailers including Waitrose and Sainsbury’s so check on their site to find the most convenient for you or order them from Freego who also stock. The calendar costs around £4.75.

 

Billy Goat Stuff

 goats’ milk chocolate free from nuts, soya, cows’ dairy, egg, wheat, gluten, additives or preservatives.

Billy Goat Stuff sell a delightful re-usable material calendar filled with 24 pieces of foil-wrapped goat’s milk chocolate. The calendars costs £9.99 and they say that the design will vary. If you bought one last year then you can just order the 24 replacement chocolates for £4.99. They also make stocking filler Christmas shapes and foiled-wrapped chocolate coins. Order direct from their site.

 

Montezuma’s also make an organic and vegan dark chocolate advent calendar, costing £9.99 from their online shop. However, their chocolate may contain traces of dairy.
