An excellent post on Alex’s Allergy Insight blog about the importance of language and how dangerous it is for terms around allergy to be poorly be defined.
What does ‘vegan’, let alone ‘100% vegan, mean for someone who is allergic to cow’s milk or eggs? What is really referred to by the term ‘dairy’? milk? butter? yogurt? from cows or from any animal? or maybe the building in which the cow’s are milked?
What about allergen free? free of all allergens? free of the top 14 allergens? And what about the novel vegan milk proteins?….

So true! What allergies means to one person is a sniffle or hay fever and to another, those allergies are life threatening. It’s so important that people use the right language for themselves to and behave accordingly ie. not saying you have an allergy and then eating your allergen when eating out!
